Jane Alexander Endorses Evelyn Farkas for Congress

Wednesday, June 3, 2020

Today, Evelyn Farkas, a senior national security official appointed by President Obama, announced that Jane Alexander, President Clinton's director of the National Endowment of the Arts, has endorsed her campaign to represent New York's 17th Congressional District. Alexander, a resident of the district, has been a long-time advocate for sustainable environmental policies and responsible ecological conservation; the prestigious Global Wildlife Ambassador Award was named in her honor.

"As a long-time constituent of Rep. Nita Lowey, and as an American concerned for our nation's future, I am proud to endorse Dr. Evelyn Farkas to represent me in Congress," Alexander said. "Evelyn has distinguished herself throughout her career serving America, and it is now more important than ever that we elevate expert and experienced leadership to the halls of Congress. From ending the coronavirus pandemic to fighting back against climate change and protecting our natural resources, I trust Evelyn to set us on the path to a brighter future in America."

"It is such an honor to be endorsed by someone with Jane's exemplary record fighting for responsible and sustainable environmental practices and the arts in America," said Farkas. "I am excited to go to Congress to fight for our shared priorities, creating a future with clean water, ecological diversity, and social justice for our district, our nation, and the world."

The daughter of refugees from Hungary, and a Westchester native, Dr. Evelyn Farkas has devoted her life to serving her country and fighting for economic and political freedom. Evelyn is the only candidate in the race to have stood up to attacks from far-right Trump allies like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, and pressed on for accountability and democratic integrity. She has been endorsed by senior Obama Administration officials, like Secretaries John Kerry and Leon Panetta, Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, and a growing double-digit list of current congressional representatives. She has also been endorsed by EMILY's List, former NY State Sen. Tom Duane, and progressive activists Rob Reiner and Jane Lynch. Evelyn is running for Congress to bring her experience, including drafting federal legislation and managing crises from the White House Situation Room, to bear on our nation's greatest challenges—from stemming the coronavirus pandemic to expanding healthcare coverage and reversing climate change.
