Representative Andy Kim Endorses Evelyn Farkas for Congress

Wednesday, June 10, 2020

Elmsford, NY — Today, Evelyn Farkas, a senior national security appointee under President Obama, announced that Congressman Andy Kim (D-NJ) has endorsed her campaign to represent New York's 17th Congressional District. Before his election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, Andy served as a foreign policy and national security advisor to General David Petreus and President Obama.

"I'm proud to endorse Evelyn Farkas for Congress," Andy said. "Evelyn is a career public servant who knows that good government starts with good people in government. From her work in the White House Situation Room to her leadership around the globe fighting for human rights, defending democracy, and protecting against terrorism, Evelyn would provide a much needed voice in Congress. As a proud product of public education and the daughter of immigrants and refugees, Evelyn understands what is at stake at home and around the globe right now. As she has done her entire career, she would serve her constituents and her country with honor and integrity."

"Andy is part of the wave of experienced national security professionals who, like me, decided to run for Congress in response to the unprecedented assault on our liberties under Trump's Republican party," Farkas said. "Andy has fought effectively for his district and understands firsthand we need experienced leaders like myself in Congress to address America's most pressing challenges, from dismantling systemically racist systems to reversing the trend of climate change and rebuilding in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic."

Andy Kim is the latest to join a double-digit group of sitting congressional representatives, including Reps. Swalwell, Escobar, and Moulton, to endorse Farkas. Farkas has also been endorsed by top Obama Administration officials like Secretaries John Kerry, Leon Panetta, and White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, as well as EMILY's List, Elect Democratic Women, Council for a Livable World, Serve America, New York state and local elected officials, former NARAL-Pro Choice NY and Planned Parenthood Federation of America Board Chair Jill Lafer, and progressive activists Rob Reiner, Jane Lynch, and Jane Alexander.
The daughter of refugees from Hungary, and a Westchester native, Dr. Evelyn Farkas has devoted her life to serving her country and fighting for economic and political freedom. Evelyn, a high-ranking Department of Defense official appointed by President Obama, is the only candidate in the race to have stood up to attacks from far-right Trump allies like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, and pressed on for accountability and democratic integrity. Evelyn is running for Congress to bring her experience, including drafting federal legislation and managing crises from the White House Situation Room, to bear on our nation's greatest challenges—like stemming the coronavirus pandemic, addressing social justice, expanding healthcare coverage, and reversing climate change.
