Sen. Bob Graham Endorses Evelyn Farkas’ Campaign for Congress

Thursday, January 23, 2020

Elmsford, NY — Today, Evelyn Farkas, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Obama, announced Bob Graham, former Governor of Florida, U.S. Senator, and Chairman of the Commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism, endorsed her campaign to succeed retiring Rep. Nita Lowey of New York.

“It is an honor to be endorsed by Sen. Graham, who represents for me the model of public service,” Farkas said. “His track record as someone who listens, who takes the time to walk in the shoes of his constituents, and who fiercely defends U.S. national security interests is one I could only hope to emulate when I’m in Congress.”

“With the retirement of many prominent members of Congress, including our own Nita Lowey, we may lose critical national security knowledge and experience. New Yorkers, and all American citizens, are lucky to have a candidate like Evelyn Farkas to fill that void,” Graham said. “I came to know Evelyn as the Executive Director of the Commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism. Evelyn was a key advisor throughout that process, the recommendations of which Congress and intelligence agencies adopted. The people of Westchester and Rockland counties have the opportunity to make her a key decision-maker as a member of the U.S. Congress. You will be doing America a favor to elect Evelyn.”

The child of Hungarian refugees, Evelyn was born and raised in Chappaqua. For nearly three decades, Evelyn has represented our country defending democracy and advancing human rights. She has been a foreign policy leader in the Defense Department, Senate Armed Services Committee, and as Executive Director of the WMD Commission. She has advised former defense secretaries and senators, including Hillary Clinton. As Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Obama, Evelyn was responsible for U.S. policy toward Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia. After the 2016 election, she stood up to conservative media to publicly denounce President Trump’s corrupt ties to Russia. For the last several years, Evelyn has been a Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and German Marshall Fund and a National Security Contributor for NBC/MSNBC.
