Women’s Rights

The Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade should have permanently protected a woman’s right to choose. Yet Republicans have steadily eroded women’s rights so that in many states, abortion access is essentially unavailable. This is unconstitutional. At the federal level, Mitch McConnell and President Trump have conspired to further restrict access to abortion with their extreme right-wing judicial nominees.

Our constitutional rights can never be dependent on what state you live in or how much money you make. As your representative, I will fight to advance legislation enshrining the principles set out in Roe v. Wade in federal law and to stop radical Republicans from attacking our rights at the state level and in the courts.

The fight for women’s reproductive health does not stop with access to safe and legal abortion. From healthcare plans that do not support contraception and menstrual products, to the stark gender disparity in wages, our nation is far behind where it should be when it comes to supporting women. In Congress, I will champion the long fight for gender equality in America.

In Congress, I will fight to:

  • Codify the principles of Roe v. Wade into federal law
  • Overturn the Trump Administration’s “Protect Life Rule,” which strips funding from organizations that promote or perform abortions, to increase funding to Planned Parenthood
  • Require insurance companies to provide full coverage for preventive health care services
  • Overturn the Hyde amendment, and support an Equal Rights Amendment to the constitution that ends disparities between men and women in divorce, property, employment, and elsewhere in society
  • Close loopholes in the Equal Pay Act of 1963 and ensure transparency from companies regarding payment practices
  • Mandate that companies give paid leave to new parents
  • Increase funding to Title IX and demand transparency during Title IX complaint investigations from schools and businesses
